Meet our latest recruit, Nick Crane. He will be writing a series of articles in his role as a Digital Marketing Executive to form a pool of memoirs written at the start of his professional career. Nick obtained a first-class (honours) degree in IT Management for Business (supported by The Tech Partnership), which included a year’s industrial placement at Hewlett-Packard, before joining Site Reach in spring 2015.
So this was it, after two interviews with the Search Marketing Director, Tom Bennison, I had secured my first graduate role with Site Reach, a renowned digital marketing agency based in Bristol. I was drawn to the SME as I wanted to learn and build on my skillset further from an established PPC and SEO agency that only used ethical techniques in helping businesses to rank higher and advertise on the search engines.
In reference to securing the role, this was excellent news, and it was also a relief that my hard work for the past four years of my degree was starting to pay off. I have many to thank, including those that directly assisted my development, namely my girlfriend, family, friends, the University of the West of England, The Tech Partnership and Hewlett-Packard.
So why did I pursue a career in Digital Marketing? Well my initial appetite for the industry was ignited several years ago and it has escalated ever since. So much so that I decided to write my final year dissertation on the latest advancements in the field, with its title being ‘An investigation into digital marketing frameworks and theory, including a review of whether UK fashion retailers are using these to influence online consumer behaviour’. In short, it uncovered the psychology behind differing digital marketing techniques and how fashion brands are targeting each part of the human brain (primal, emotional and rational) in an attempt to influence the consumer into making a purchase.
Since starting as a Digital Marketing Executive, early indications are good – it seems to be everything I hoped it would be and more! To date, I have brought my knowledge and experience from my degree and industrial placement into the mix which has acted as a great foundation for me to build upon.
Moreover, I have studied and passed the coveted Google Partner status. Once certified I was thrown straight into the deep end creating, refining and optimising large budget PPC campaigns for our clients. I am loving the continued challenge, and learning lots, onwards and upwards I say to my Google Analytics IQ certification which is next on the horizon.
My next article will cover my first month since becoming a certified Google Partner.
Thank you for reading, if you would like to get in touch, it would be great to hear your thoughts!
